Welcome to the Counseling Office

Office Hours:
Monday-Friday, 7:00am-3:00pm

The goal of the Counseling department at South Kitsap High School is to promote the academic, social, and personal development of each student. We provide individual, small group, and classroom services in order to assist our students in setting and meeting appropriate career goals and realizing their full academic potential. Counselors strive to make the office a place where students and parents feel welcome to come in with questions or concerns of any kind.

Our counselors are assigned to students based on the student's last name; students have the same counselor all the way to graduation.

  • Students: Make an appointment with your Counselor using the link in your grade-level Google class.
  • Parents can call 360-874-5627 or contact the counselor directly to make an appointment. Counselors may not be available for drop-in visits.

Frequent Requests

  • All Transcript Requests must be submitted online via Parchment
This includes current and former students and other requesters like colleges, scholarships, employers, and the military.

    Link to Parchment

    How to Request a Transcript:

    1. Visit Parchment website and create your Parchment account to request a transcript
      • Make sure to use an outside email address - DO NOT use your @skstudent email account! - so you will receive emails from Parchment.
    2. Your request will be approved by our Registrar within 24-48 (business) hours.
      • Upon verification, your transcript is sent automatically.  Orders are checked to ensure the most recent transcript is sent.
      • Transcript orders can be "held for final grades" and sent once grades are posted.
    3. Please note: The self-view transcript sitting in your account is a download from a specific point in time.  It is not live data.  When new grades are posted, you need to make another request for a self-view transcript to see the updated grades.
    4. Current Seniors: Link to instructions to order your final transcript after graduation
    5. Former Students: Be sure to enter your last name when you attended SKHS and the year you graduated from or left South Kitsap High School. (if you've had a name change, this would be your maiden/former name)

    Notes:

    • High Schools enrolling a student should send an official records request to: SKHSRegistrar@skschools.org
    • Parents/guardians requesting on behalf of your student, please use the student's information (date of birth, student ID number, GRAD YEAR)  when filling out the registration.
    • DIPLOMAS are available for graduates to pick up at the ASB office. The window is open from 9 am to 2 pm, M-F.
Diplomas must be picked up by the graduate; photo ID (student ID card, state ID, drivers license, etc.) is required. If the graduate cannot visit during open hours, please email SKHSRegistrar@skschools.org for assistance. We hold diplomas at the high school indefinitely.

      • NOTES: You do not received your diploma at the Graduation Ceremony., Diplomas are available for pick up from mid-July. Diplomas are not sent in the mail. The Diploma is considered a ceremonial document only, meant for display.  It does not list your GPA, or courses. Employers, colleges and the military almost always require an official transcript, not the diploma, to verify educational background.

The High School and Beyond Plan needs to be completed in order to participate in the graduation commencement ceremony.

Visit ClassLink for the a link to the website.

  • Steps To Becoming A Running Start Student
Once you and your parents/guardians have decided that Running Start is right for you, these are the steps to get enrolled.

    1. If you don't already have one, create a Parchment account to be able to access your high school transcript. See 'Request a Transcript' on the left sidebar.
    2. Apply to the college of your choice. See the college's website for application date deadlines. At Olympic College, be sure to indicate your student type as Running Start. DO NOT use your skstudent email, use your personal email.
    3. Once accepted, activate your student account (if required) and make an appointment to take the Accuplacer (if needed) and/or talk to your SKHS counselor about other options to meet placement into English and/or Math classes. At OC, submit your transcript, Student-Parent Agreement, and test scores (if needed).
    4. For colleges other than OC, you may need to apply separately to the Running Start program, following the steps and submitting required paperwork for that college.
    5. Once accepted in the RS program, make an appointment with your SKHS counselor to complete a Running Start Enrollment Verification Form (RSEVF).
    6. Make an appointment with your college RS Advisor to discuss your class choices and get a registration PIN (if needed). Submit your RSEVF electronically to your college at least 2 days ahead of your advising appointment.
    7. Attend Running Start orientation.

Running Start is a state-wide program that allows junior and senior high school students to enroll in college-level classes tuition free, earning both high school and college credit at the same time. This type of dual-enrollment program gives academically motived students the chance to get started early on their college journey.

Deciding if Running Start is right for you means thinking critically about your goals and your readiness to meet the challenges of college-level classes. Ask yourself these questions:

    • Am I ready academically? Can I keep up with the accelerated nature of college classes?
    • Do I have good study skills and can I manage my coursework independently?
    • Will I be comfortable in a classroom with people possibly much older than me?

    Eligibility Requirements
There are several eligibility requirements that you must meet in order to enroll in Running Start. You must:

    • Be in 11th or 12th grade
    • Be under 21 years old at the start of the school year
    • Have not have graduated or earned a GED
    • Place into college level English and/or Math classes
