The unique and structured cadet advancement system is a core part of the NJROTC program. Each rank within the Wolf Battalion has a specific set of procedures that must be followed in order for cadets to advance. Additionally, once a cadet has completed all rank advancement requirements, they will receive their new rank at the closest Battalion Inspection. Advancement is managed and overseen by the Educational Services Department.

SUPPLEMENTAL ADVANCEMENT METHOD
- If a cadet is the rank of E-1 Seaman Recruit and graduates from the Wolf Battalion's annual Basic Leadership Training, they are advanced to the rate of E-2 automatically.
ADVANCEMENT PROCESS
All requirements for advancement to a specific rank must be satisfied before you are allowed to advance at a Battalion Inspection. You may only complete advancement materials for the next rank you are qualified to advance to. For example, if you are an E-3, you may only complete requirements for E-4, not E-5 or above. This is instated to ensure materials are understood at the time of advancement, and so all tests cannot be taken on one day, thus minimizing the effectiveness of knowledge materials.
As part of the Battalion leadership's initiative to use less paper products, the Educational Services Department has moved away from paper advancement materials. All advancement materials are digital and found on the Advancement Center Google Classroom. The join code is bzeffib.
How to Advance
In order to advance to any rank, all requirements must be fulfilled. There is no required order of completion of advancement requirements; however, the Educational Services Department outlines a suggested advancement process with the following steps:- Study of topics for the practical and knowledge examinations.
- Completion of the distance learning materials (if required).
- Completion of the knowledge examination during an Advancement Session.
- Completion of the practical examination.
- Completion of any other advancement requirements.
- Communication with the cadet's Platoon Commander or Mustering Chief to complete the advancement record.
Advancement Testing
For each advancement rank, there is at least one examination that must be completed. Most ranks have a knowledge examination, and every rank has a practical examination. Advancement knowledge testing is held twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school at the NJROTC Armory. Practical testing times vary.
Additionally, there are morning advancement knowledge testing sessions, usually held in the SKHS Library from 0700-0800 on Wednesdays.
Advancement Knowledge Tests are always digital. They must be taken on a cadet's school Chromebook. If there is a situation where a cadet forgets their school laptop, or it is not charged, they are not permitted to take the test that day (exceptions are if another cadet has a Chromebook charger they are willing to let other cadets borrow). If the power is ever out, or network connection for the Armory is disrupted, there are physical copies of examinations that can be administered on a case-by-case basis.
